POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES THROUGH
MODULAR BASED CREDIT BANKING SCHEME
SPECIAL REGULATIONS - 2008
(Applicable only to Teaching Faculties in Technical Institutions)
Special Regulations for P.G. Programmes through Modular Based Credit Banking Scheme effective from the academic year 2008- 2009.
1. PRELIMINARY DEFINITIONS AND NOMENCLATURE
In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires:
i. "Programme" means Post Graduate Degree Programme M.E. (Structural Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Embedded System Technologies, Applied Electronics, Communication Systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering and Operation Research and Aeronautical Engineering) through Modular Based Credit Banking scheme.
ii. "Specialization" means the discipline of the Post Graduate Degree Programme.
iii. "Course" means a Theory or Practical subject that is normally offered in a semester like Structural Dynamics, Pervasive Computing, Information Security etc.
iv. "Coordinator" means the senior faculty nominated by the authorities of
ANNA UNIVERSITY TIRUCHIRAPPALLI to monitor and implement the
programme offered through Modular Based Credit Banking scheme.
v. "Course Coordinator" means the senior faculty nominated by the
authorities of ANNA UNIVERSITY TIRUCHIRAPPALLI to organize and
monitor the progress of the courses offered and to be the default member of the class committee.
vi. "University" means ANNA UNIVERSITY TIRUCHIRAPPALLI.
2. PROGRAMMES OFFERED, MODE OF STUDY AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
2.1 P.G. PROGRAMMES OFFERED
M.E. Programmes through Modular Based Credit Banking Scheme for a minimum duration of 3 years (6-semesters)

2.2. MODE OF STUDY
The candidates selected for the M.E. Programme under the credit-banking scheme shall credit the courses through
• Faculty Development Programme (FDP)
In this mode of study, the candidates are required to attend classes, offered through FDP as per the academic schedule prepared by the Coordinator of this programme in consultation with the Course Coordinators.
The instructions and contents for all courses will be provided in CDs to the candidates periodically and also made available in the Web.
2.3 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
2.3.1 Candidates for admission to the first semester of the M.E. programme through Modular Based Credit Banking Scheme shall be required to have passed an appropriate Degree Examination of Anna University as specified in Table-1 or any other examination of any recognized University or authority accepted by the Syndicate of Anna University Tiruchirappalli as equivalent thereto.
2.3.1.1 In addition to that (as per the special regulations) candidates for admission shall be teachers working in any of the recognized
Technical Institution of Tamil Nadu with a minimum of one year teaching experience.
2.3.1.2 The selection for admission to this programme is based on the percentage of marks / grade point average scored and the number of years of teaching experience.
2.3.1.3 The enrollment to this programme ceases automatically if the candidate quits the teaching job from the Technical Institution.
2.3.2 However, the Syndicate of the University may decide to restrict admission in any particular year to candidates having a subset of qualifications prescribed in Table -1.
2.3.3 Not withstanding the qualifying examination the candidate might have passed, he / she shall have a minimum level of proficiency in the appropriate programme / courses as prescribed by the Syndicate of the University from time to time.
2.3.4 Eligibility conditions for admission such as class obtained, number of attempts in qualifying examination and physical fitness will be as prescribed by the Syndicate of the University from time to time.
2.3.5 Candidates should satisfy other conditions regarding experience; Sponsorship etc. as prescribed by the Syndicate from time to time.
2.3.6 The admission for this programme will be done by "The Director (Admissions)", Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
2.3.7 Every semester, the candidate must forward the registration / enrollment form to the coordinator through the Head of the Institution, in which he / she is currently working.
2.3.8 The candidate has to register all the courses prescribed for the particular semester. Cancellation of registration is applicable only when the request is made within two weeks from the time of admission / registration. Cancellation and refund of fee will be carried out as per the rules of Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
2.3.9 The candidates admitted to this programme are deemed to be the students of Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
2.3.10 Students admitted under this programme are governed by the Regulations in force.
3. DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF THE P.G. PROGRAMME
3.1 The minimum and maximum period for completion of this P.G. Degree Programme is 6 semesters and 14 semesters respectively.
3.2 The P.G. Programme will consist of
■ core courses
■ elective courses
■ project work
The Programme will also include projects / seminars / practicals / practical training, if they are specified in the Curriculum.
3.3 The Curriculum and Syllabi of this P.G. Programme shall be approved by the Board of Studies, Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
3.4 The number of credits to be earned for the successful completion of the programme shall be as specified in the Curriculum.
3.5 Sequence of Faculty Development Programmes will be conducted for all the courses offered in the semester as per the pre-determined schedule.
3.6 The electives from the curriculum are to be chosen with the approval of the Course Coordinator and Coordinator.
3.7 Project work
3.7.1 Project work shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified teacher in the concerned department or prescribed by the Coordinator.
3.7.2 A candidate may, however, in certain cases be permitted to work on the project in an Industrial / Research Organization on the recommendation of the Coordinator. In such cases, supervisor of the department and an expert from Industry / Research organization shall jointly supervise the Project work and the candidate shall be instructed to meet the supervisor periodically and to attend the review committee meetings for evaluating the progress.
3.7.3 The Project work of the programme during Phase-I shall be evaluated through continuous assessment and viva-voce at the end of Phase-I.
3.7.4 The Project work (Phase-II) shall be pursued for a minimum of 16 weeks during the final semester.
3.7.5 Two project review meetings shall be conducted and projects are to be evaluated by a three-member project committee constituted by the Coordinator. The report on evaluation shall be sent periodically to the Coordinator.
3.7.6 The evaluation of the Project work will be based on the project report and a viva-voce Examination by a team consisting of the Supervisor, a common Internal Examiner and a common External Examiner. The weightage will be 50% for internal assessment, 20% for project report and 30% for the viva-voce examination.
3.7.7 The project report shall be prepared according to the guidelines approved by Anna University Tiruchirappalli, duly signed by the supervisor(s) and shall be submitted to the Coordinator.
3.7.8 If a candidate fails to submit the project report on or before the specified deadline, he / she is deemed to have failed in the Project Work and shall re-enroll the same in a subsequent semester. This applies to both Phase-I and Phase-II.
3.7.9 A candidate who has acquired the minimum number of total credits prescribed in the Curriculum for the award of the Masters Degree will not be permitted to enroll for more courses to improve his / her cumulative grade point average.
3.7.10 The medium of instruction, examination, seminar and project / thesis / dissertation reports will be in English.
4. COORDINATOR
The Coordinator helps the students in pursuing their courses of study and provides general advices on the academic programmes. The Coordinator shall periodically monitor the courses taken by the students, check the attendance and progress of the students.
5. COURSE COORDINATOR
Each common theory course offered shall have a "Course Coordinator" among all the teachers teaching the common theory course. The Course Coordinator shall be nominated by the Coordinator.
6. CLASS COMMITTEE
6.1 A class committee, consisting of Course Coordinators, Student representative and a Chairperson who is not teaching the class, is constituted by the Coordinator. The Coordinator may participate in the class committee.
The functions of the class committee include
• Resolving academic issues experienced by students in the class room and in the laboratories.
• Clarifying the regulations of the degree programme and the details of rules therein.
• Informing the student representatives the academic schedule including the number of assessments, their schedules and the syllabus coverage for each assessment.
• Informing the student representatives the details of regulations regarding the weightage used for each assessment. In the case of practical courses (Laboratory / project work / seminar etc.) the breakup of marks for each experiment / exercise / module of work, should be clearly discussed in the class committee meeting and informed to the students.
• Analyzing the performance of the students of the class after each test and finding the ways and means of solving problems, if any.
6.2 The Coordinator is required to prepare the minutes of every meeting within two days of the meeting and arrange to circulate among the concerned students and teachers.
6.3 The first meeting of the class committee shall be held within one week from the date of commencement of the semester, in order to inform the students about the nature and weightage of assessments within the framework of the Regulations. Two or three subsequent meetings may be held at suitable intervals. During these meetings the student members representing the entire class, shall meaningfully interact and express the opinions and suggestions of the class students to improve the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process.
7. PROCEDURES FOR AWARDING MARKS FOR INTERNAL
ASSESSMENT
7.1 Every teacher is required to maintain 'ATTENDANCE AND ASSESSMENT RECORD' which consists of attendance marked in each lecture or practical or project work class, the test marks and the record of class work (topic covered), separately for each course. This should be submitted to the Coordinator periodically for checking the syllabus coverage and the records of test marks and attendance. The coordinator shall put his signature and date after due verification. The Coordinator will keep this document in safe custody (for five years). The University or any inspection team appointed by the University may scrutinize the records of attendance and assessment of both current and previous semesters.
7.2
Theory Courses
Two tests each carrying 100 marks shall be conducted, the total marks obtained in both tests put together, shall be reduced to 20 marks and rounded to the nearest integer.
7.3 Practical Courses
Every practical exercise / experiment shall be evaluated based on conduct of experiment / exercise and records maintained. There shall be at least one mid-semester test. The criteria for arriving at the internal assessment marks shall be decided by the Coordinator / Course Coordinator and shall be announced at the beginning of every semester.
7.4 Theory Courses with Laboratory Component
If there is a theory course with Laboratory component, the mode of assessment will be decided by the Coordinator / Course Coordinator in consultation with the Coordinator.
7.5 The maximum marks for each theory course shall be 100 comprising of 20 marks for internal assessment and 80 marks for the end-semester examination. The maximum marks for each practical course shall be 100 comprising of 20 marks for internal assessment and 80 marks for end-semester examination.
7.6 Project Work
There shall be two assessments (each 100 marks) during the semester by a review committee. The student shall make presentation on the progress made before the committee. The Coordinator shall constitute the review committee. The total marks obtained in the assessments shall be reduced to 50 marks and rounded to the nearest integer. This procedure applies to both Phase-I and Phase-II of Project work.
8. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO DO PROJECT
8.1 A candidate is permitted to enroll the project work if he / she has earned the minimum number of 27 credits.
8.2 If the candidate has not earned the requisite minimum credits, he / she has to complete the arrears (at least to the extent of earning the minimum credits specified) and then enroll for the project work in the subsequent semester.
8.3 In case of candidates not completing Phase-I of project work successfully, the candidates can undertake Phase-I again in the next semester. In such cases, the candidates can enroll for Phase-II only after successful completion of Phase-I.
9. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF A SEMESTER
A candidate who has fulfilled the following conditions shall be deemed to have satisfied the requirements for completion of a semester.
9.1 Every student is expected to attend all classes and secure 100% attendance. However, in order to allow for certain unavoidable reasons such as medical / personal, the student is expected to attend at least 90% of classes through FDP.
9.2 However, a candidate who could secure attendance between 75% and above and less than 90% in the current semester due to medical reasons (hospitalization / accident / specific illness) with prior permission from the Co-ordinator shall be given exemption from the prescribed attendance requirement and he / she shall be permitted to appear for the current semester examination.
9.3 Candidates who do not meet the above requirements will not be permitted to write the end-semester examination and are not permitted to go to next semester. They are required to repeat the incomplete semester in the next academic year.
10. REQUIRMENTS FOR APPEARING FOR END-SEMESTER EXAMINATION
A candidate shall normally be permitted to appear for the end-semester examination of the current semester if he / she has satisfied the semester completion requirements (vide Clause 9) and has enrolled for examination in all courses of that semester, as well as the arrears of the previous semesters.
11. END-SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS
The examinations shall normally be conducted between October and December during the odd semesters and between March and May in the even semesters.
11.1 There shall be one end-semester examination of 3 hours duration in each lecture based course and practical course.
11.2 The evaluation of the Project work will be based on the project report and a Viva-Voce Examination by a team consisting of the supervisor, a common internal examiner and an external examiner.
11.3 If a student indulges in any malpractice during tests / examinations, the student shall be liable for punitive action as prescribed by the University from time to time.
11.4 For practical examinations (including project work) both internal and external examiners shall be appointed by the Controller of Examinations.
12. PASSING REQUIRMENTS
12.1 A Candidate who secures the letter grade other than 'U', 'I' and W in the course(s) shall be declared to have passed in the course(s).
12.1.1 If a candidate fails to secure a pass in a particular course it is mandatory that he / she shall register and reappear for the examination in that course during the next semester when examination is conducted in that course; he / she should continue to register and reappear for the examination till he / she secures a pass. However, the internal assessment marks obtained by the candidate in the first attempt shall be retained and considered valid for all subsequent appearances.
12.1.2 Candidates who had failed and earned poor internal assessment marks in a course, may be permitted, if they make a request to the Coordinator to enroll, on payment of prescribed fees, and re-do such a course along with the regular class of juniors, as and when it is offered to juniors. The fresh internal assessment marks so earned will only be taken for all subsequent semester examinations. Candidates have to secure a minimum attendance of 90% course wise, while redoing; otherwise redoing of the course will become invalid.
13. WEIGHTAGES
The following will be the weightages for different courses.

14. AWARD OF LETTER GRADES
14.1 All assessments of a course will be done on absolute marks basis. However, for the purpose of reporting the performance of a candidate, letter grades, each carrying certain points, will be awarded as per the range of total marks (out of 100) obtained by the candidate, as detailed below:

The range of marks shall be slightly modified if required as per the class committee recommendations, however, the letter grade 'S' is fixed for the marks range 90 - 100.
The letter grade
"U" denotes failure in the course.
"I" denotes incomplete as per clause 10 and hence prevented from writing semester examination.
"W" denotes withdrawal from the course.
After the declaration of results, Grade Sheets will be issued to each student, which will contain the following details:
The list of courses enrolled during the semester and the grade scored. The Grade Point Average (GPA) for the semester and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of all courses enrolled from first semester onwards.
GPA is the ratio of the sum of the products of the number of credits of courses enrolled and the points corresponding to the grades scored in those courses, taken for all the courses, to the sum of the number of credits of all the courses in the semester.

CGPA will be calculated in a similar manner, considering all the courses enrolled from first semester. "U", "I" and "W" grades will be excluded for calculating GPA and CGPA.
14.2 Whenever regular students are not there and only arrears students take up the examinations, the letter grades will be awarded based on the range of marks used in the immediately preceding end-semester examinations.
15. ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE
15.1 A candidate shall be declared to be eligible for the award of the Degree if he / she has
o Successfully acquired the required credits as specified in the Curriculum corresponding to this programme within the stipulated time.
o No disciplinary action is pending against him / her.
15.2 The Syndicate must approve the award of the degree.
16. CLASSIFICATION OF THE DEGREE AWARDED
16.1 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree (vide clause 15) having passed the examination in all the courses in his / her first appearance within the specified minimum number of semesters securing a CGPA of not less than 8.50 shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class with Distinction. For this purpose the withdrawal from examination (vide clause 17) will not be construed as an appearance. Further, the authorized break of study (vide clause18) will not be counted for the purpose of classification.
16.2 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree (vide clause 15) having passed the examination in all the courses within the specified minimum number of semesters plus one year (two semesters), securing a CGPA of not less than 6.50 shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class. For this purpose the authorized break of study (vide clause 18) will not be counted for the purpose of classification.
16.3 All other candidates (not covered in clauses 16.1 and 16.2) who qualify for the award of the degree (vide Clause 15) shall be declared to have passed the examination in Second Class.
16.4 A candidate who is absent in semester examination in a course / project work after having enrolled for the same shall be considered to have appeared in that examination for the purpose of classification.
16.5 A candidate can apply for revaluation of his / her semester examination answer paper in a theory course, within 2 weeks from the declaration of results, on payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the Controller of Examinations through the Co-ordinator. The Controller of Examinations will arrange for the revaluation and the results will be intimated to the candidate concerned through the Co-ordinator. Revaluation is not permitted for practical courses, and project work.
17. PROVISION FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM EXAMINATION
A candidate may, for valid medical reasons, be granted permission to withdraw from appearing for any course or courses of only one semester examination during the entire duration of the degree programme. Also only one application for withdrawal is permitted for that semester examination in which withdrawal is sought.
Withdrawal of application for examination shall be valid only if the candidate is otherwise eligible to write the examination and if it is made within the prescribed number of days prior to the commencement of the examination in that course or courses and also recommended by the Coordinator.
Withdrawal shall not be construed as an appearance for the eligibility of a candidate for First Class with Distinction.
18. TEMPORARY BREAK OF STUDY FROM A PROGRAMME
18.1 A candidate is not normally permitted to temporarily break the study. However if a candidate intends to temporarily discontinue the programme in the middle for valid reasons and to rejoin the programme in a later semester, he / she shall apply to the Coordinator of this programme in advance, in any case, not later than the last date for enrolling for the semester examinations of the semester, through the Coordinator, stating the reasons therefore.
18.2 The candidate permitted to rejoin the programme after the break shall be governed by the rules and regulations in force at the time of rejoining.
18.3 The authorized break of study will not be counted for the duration specified for passing all the courses for the purpose of classification vide Clause 16.1 and 16.2.
18.4 The total period for completion of the programme reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted shall not exceed the maximum period specified in Clause 3 irrespective of the period of break of study in order that he / she may be eligible for the award of the degree (vide Clause 15).
18.5 If any student is detained for want of requisite attendance, progress and good conduct, the period spent in that semester shall not be considered as permitted 'Break of Study' and Clause 18.3 is not applicable for this case.
19. DISCIPLINE
Every candidate is required to observe disciplined and decorous behavior both inside and outside the University and not to indulge in any activity which will tend to bring down the prestige of the University. In the event of an act of indiscipline being reported, the Coordinator of this programme shall constitute a disciplinary committee consisting of senior faculty to inquire into the acts of indiscipline and recommend suitable disciplinary action for approval and implementation.
20. REVISION OF REGULATION AND CURRICULUM
The University may from time to time revise, amend or change the Regulations, scheme of examinations and syllabi, if found necessary.

2.3.1 Candidates for admission to the first semester of the M.E. programme through Modular Based Credit Banking Scheme shall be required to have passed an appropriate Degree Examination of Anna University as specified in Table-1 or any other examination of any recognized University or authority accepted by the Syndicate of Anna University Tiruchirappalli as equivalent thereto.
2.3.1.1 In addition to that (as per the special regulations) candidates for admission shall be teachers working in any of the recognized
Technical Institution of Tamil Nadu with a minimum of one year teaching experience.
2.3.1.2 The selection for admission to this programme is based on the percentage of marks / grade point average scored and the number of years of teaching experience.
2.3.1.3 The enrollment to this programme ceases automatically if the candidate quits the teaching job from the Technical Institution.
2.3.2 However, the Syndicate of the University may decide to restrict admission in any particular year to candidates having a subset of qualifications prescribed in Table -1.
2.3.3 Not withstanding the qualifying examination the candidate might have passed, he / she shall have a minimum level of proficiency in the appropriate programme / courses as prescribed by the Syndicate of the University from time to time.
2.3.4 Eligibility conditions for admission such as class obtained, number of attempts in qualifying examination and physical fitness will be as prescribed by the Syndicate of the University from time to time.
2.3.5 Candidates should satisfy other conditions regarding experience; Sponsorship etc. as prescribed by the Syndicate from time to time.
2.3.6 The admission for this programme will be done by "The Director (Admissions)", Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
2.3.7 Every semester, the candidate must forward the registration / enrollment form to the coordinator through the Head of the Institution, in which he / she is currently working.
2.3.8 The candidate has to register all the courses prescribed for the particular semester. Cancellation of registration is applicable only when the request is made within two weeks from the time of admission / registration. Cancellation and refund of fee will be carried out as per the rules of Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
2.3.9 The candidates admitted to this programme are deemed to be the students of Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
2.3.10 Students admitted under this programme are governed by the Regulations in force.
3. DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF THE P.G. PROGRAMME
3.1 The minimum and maximum period for completion of this P.G. Degree Programme is 6 semesters and 14 semesters respectively.
3.2 The P.G. Programme will consist of
■ core courses
■ elective courses
■ project work
The Programme will also include projects / seminars / practicals / practical training, if they are specified in the Curriculum.
3.3 The Curriculum and Syllabi of this P.G. Programme shall be approved by the Board of Studies, Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
3.4 The number of credits to be earned for the successful completion of the programme shall be as specified in the Curriculum.
3.5 Sequence of Faculty Development Programmes will be conducted for all the courses offered in the semester as per the pre-determined schedule.
3.6 The electives from the curriculum are to be chosen with the approval of the Course Coordinator and Coordinator.
3.7 Project work
3.7.1 Project work shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified teacher in the concerned department or prescribed by the Coordinator.
3.7.2 A candidate may, however, in certain cases be permitted to work on the project in an Industrial / Research Organization on the recommendation of the Coordinator. In such cases, supervisor of the department and an expert from Industry / Research organization shall jointly supervise the Project work and the candidate shall be instructed to meet the supervisor periodically and to attend the review committee meetings for evaluating the progress.
3.7.3 The Project work of the programme during Phase-I shall be evaluated through continuous assessment and viva-voce at the end of Phase-I.
3.7.4 The Project work (Phase-II) shall be pursued for a minimum of 16 weeks during the final semester.
3.7.5 Two project review meetings shall be conducted and projects are to be evaluated by a three-member project committee constituted by the Coordinator. The report on evaluation shall be sent periodically to the Coordinator.
3.7.6 The evaluation of the Project work will be based on the project report and a viva-voce Examination by a team consisting of the Supervisor, a common Internal Examiner and a common External Examiner. The weightage will be 50% for internal assessment, 20% for project report and 30% for the viva-voce examination.
3.7.7 The project report shall be prepared according to the guidelines approved by Anna University Tiruchirappalli, duly signed by the supervisor(s) and shall be submitted to the Coordinator.
3.7.8 If a candidate fails to submit the project report on or before the specified deadline, he / she is deemed to have failed in the Project Work and shall re-enroll the same in a subsequent semester. This applies to both Phase-I and Phase-II.
3.7.9 A candidate who has acquired the minimum number of total credits prescribed in the Curriculum for the award of the Masters Degree will not be permitted to enroll for more courses to improve his / her cumulative grade point average.
3.7.10 The medium of instruction, examination, seminar and project / thesis / dissertation reports will be in English.
4. COORDINATOR
The Coordinator helps the students in pursuing their courses of study and provides general advices on the academic programmes. The Coordinator shall periodically monitor the courses taken by the students, check the attendance and progress of the students.
5. COURSE COORDINATOR
Each common theory course offered shall have a "Course Coordinator" among all the teachers teaching the common theory course. The Course Coordinator shall be nominated by the Coordinator.
6. CLASS COMMITTEE
6.1 A class committee, consisting of Course Coordinators, Student representative and a Chairperson who is not teaching the class, is constituted by the Coordinator. The Coordinator may participate in the class committee.
The functions of the class committee include
• Resolving academic issues experienced by students in the class room and in the laboratories.
• Clarifying the regulations of the degree programme and the details of rules therein.
• Informing the student representatives the academic schedule including the number of assessments, their schedules and the syllabus coverage for each assessment.
• Informing the student representatives the details of regulations regarding the weightage used for each assessment. In the case of practical courses (Laboratory / project work / seminar etc.) the breakup of marks for each experiment / exercise / module of work, should be clearly discussed in the class committee meeting and informed to the students.
• Analyzing the performance of the students of the class after each test and finding the ways and means of solving problems, if any.
6.2 The Coordinator is required to prepare the minutes of every meeting within two days of the meeting and arrange to circulate among the concerned students and teachers.
6.3 The first meeting of the class committee shall be held within one week from the date of commencement of the semester, in order to inform the students about the nature and weightage of assessments within the framework of the Regulations. Two or three subsequent meetings may be held at suitable intervals. During these meetings the student members representing the entire class, shall meaningfully interact and express the opinions and suggestions of the class students to improve the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process.
7. PROCEDURES FOR AWARDING MARKS FOR INTERNAL
ASSESSMENT
7.1 Every teacher is required to maintain 'ATTENDANCE AND ASSESSMENT RECORD' which consists of attendance marked in each lecture or practical or project work class, the test marks and the record of class work (topic covered), separately for each course. This should be submitted to the Coordinator periodically for checking the syllabus coverage and the records of test marks and attendance. The coordinator shall put his signature and date after due verification. The Coordinator will keep this document in safe custody (for five years). The University or any inspection team appointed by the University may scrutinize the records of attendance and assessment of both current and previous semesters.
7.2
Theory Courses
Two tests each carrying 100 marks shall be conducted, the total marks obtained in both tests put together, shall be reduced to 20 marks and rounded to the nearest integer.
7.3 Practical Courses
Every practical exercise / experiment shall be evaluated based on conduct of experiment / exercise and records maintained. There shall be at least one mid-semester test. The criteria for arriving at the internal assessment marks shall be decided by the Coordinator / Course Coordinator and shall be announced at the beginning of every semester.
7.4 Theory Courses with Laboratory Component
If there is a theory course with Laboratory component, the mode of assessment will be decided by the Coordinator / Course Coordinator in consultation with the Coordinator.
7.5 The maximum marks for each theory course shall be 100 comprising of 20 marks for internal assessment and 80 marks for the end-semester examination. The maximum marks for each practical course shall be 100 comprising of 20 marks for internal assessment and 80 marks for end-semester examination.
7.6 Project Work
There shall be two assessments (each 100 marks) during the semester by a review committee. The student shall make presentation on the progress made before the committee. The Coordinator shall constitute the review committee. The total marks obtained in the assessments shall be reduced to 50 marks and rounded to the nearest integer. This procedure applies to both Phase-I and Phase-II of Project work.
8. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO DO PROJECT
8.1 A candidate is permitted to enroll the project work if he / she has earned the minimum number of 27 credits.
8.2 If the candidate has not earned the requisite minimum credits, he / she has to complete the arrears (at least to the extent of earning the minimum credits specified) and then enroll for the project work in the subsequent semester.
8.3 In case of candidates not completing Phase-I of project work successfully, the candidates can undertake Phase-I again in the next semester. In such cases, the candidates can enroll for Phase-II only after successful completion of Phase-I.
9. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF A SEMESTER
A candidate who has fulfilled the following conditions shall be deemed to have satisfied the requirements for completion of a semester.
9.1 Every student is expected to attend all classes and secure 100% attendance. However, in order to allow for certain unavoidable reasons such as medical / personal, the student is expected to attend at least 90% of classes through FDP.
9.2 However, a candidate who could secure attendance between 75% and above and less than 90% in the current semester due to medical reasons (hospitalization / accident / specific illness) with prior permission from the Co-ordinator shall be given exemption from the prescribed attendance requirement and he / she shall be permitted to appear for the current semester examination.
9.3 Candidates who do not meet the above requirements will not be permitted to write the end-semester examination and are not permitted to go to next semester. They are required to repeat the incomplete semester in the next academic year.
10. REQUIRMENTS FOR APPEARING FOR END-SEMESTER EXAMINATION
A candidate shall normally be permitted to appear for the end-semester examination of the current semester if he / she has satisfied the semester completion requirements (vide Clause 9) and has enrolled for examination in all courses of that semester, as well as the arrears of the previous semesters.
11. END-SEMESTER EXAMINATIONS
The examinations shall normally be conducted between October and December during the odd semesters and between March and May in the even semesters.
11.1 There shall be one end-semester examination of 3 hours duration in each lecture based course and practical course.
11.2 The evaluation of the Project work will be based on the project report and a Viva-Voce Examination by a team consisting of the supervisor, a common internal examiner and an external examiner.
11.3 If a student indulges in any malpractice during tests / examinations, the student shall be liable for punitive action as prescribed by the University from time to time.
11.4 For practical examinations (including project work) both internal and external examiners shall be appointed by the Controller of Examinations.
12. PASSING REQUIRMENTS
12.1 A Candidate who secures the letter grade other than 'U', 'I' and W in the course(s) shall be declared to have passed in the course(s).
12.1.1 If a candidate fails to secure a pass in a particular course it is mandatory that he / she shall register and reappear for the examination in that course during the next semester when examination is conducted in that course; he / she should continue to register and reappear for the examination till he / she secures a pass. However, the internal assessment marks obtained by the candidate in the first attempt shall be retained and considered valid for all subsequent appearances.
12.1.2 Candidates who had failed and earned poor internal assessment marks in a course, may be permitted, if they make a request to the Coordinator to enroll, on payment of prescribed fees, and re-do such a course along with the regular class of juniors, as and when it is offered to juniors. The fresh internal assessment marks so earned will only be taken for all subsequent semester examinations. Candidates have to secure a minimum attendance of 90% course wise, while redoing; otherwise redoing of the course will become invalid.

14. AWARD OF LETTER GRADES
14.1 All assessments of a course will be done on absolute marks basis. However, for the purpose of reporting the performance of a candidate, letter grades, each carrying certain points, will be awarded as per the range of total marks (out of 100) obtained by the candidate, as detailed below:

The range of marks shall be slightly modified if required as per the class committee recommendations, however, the letter grade 'S' is fixed for the marks range 90 - 100.
The letter grade
"U" denotes failure in the course.
"I" denotes incomplete as per clause 10 and hence prevented from writing semester examination.
"W" denotes withdrawal from the course.
After the declaration of results, Grade Sheets will be issued to each student, which will contain the following details:
The list of courses enrolled during the semester and the grade scored. The Grade Point Average (GPA) for the semester and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of all courses enrolled from first semester onwards.
GPA is the ratio of the sum of the products of the number of credits of courses enrolled and the points corresponding to the grades scored in those courses, taken for all the courses, to the sum of the number of credits of all the courses in the semester.

CGPA will be calculated in a similar manner, considering all the courses enrolled from first semester. "U", "I" and "W" grades will be excluded for calculating GPA and CGPA.
14.2 Whenever regular students are not there and only arrears students take up the examinations, the letter grades will be awarded based on the range of marks used in the immediately preceding end-semester examinations.
15. ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE
15.1 A candidate shall be declared to be eligible for the award of the Degree if he / she has
o Successfully acquired the required credits as specified in the Curriculum corresponding to this programme within the stipulated time.
o No disciplinary action is pending against him / her.
15.2 The Syndicate must approve the award of the degree.
16. CLASSIFICATION OF THE DEGREE AWARDED
16.1 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree (vide clause 15) having passed the examination in all the courses in his / her first appearance within the specified minimum number of semesters securing a CGPA of not less than 8.50 shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class with Distinction. For this purpose the withdrawal from examination (vide clause 17) will not be construed as an appearance. Further, the authorized break of study (vide clause18) will not be counted for the purpose of classification.
16.2 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree (vide clause 15) having passed the examination in all the courses within the specified minimum number of semesters plus one year (two semesters), securing a CGPA of not less than 6.50 shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class. For this purpose the authorized break of study (vide clause 18) will not be counted for the purpose of classification.
16.3 All other candidates (not covered in clauses 16.1 and 16.2) who qualify for the award of the degree (vide Clause 15) shall be declared to have passed the examination in Second Class.
16.4 A candidate who is absent in semester examination in a course / project work after having enrolled for the same shall be considered to have appeared in that examination for the purpose of classification.
16.5 A candidate can apply for revaluation of his / her semester examination answer paper in a theory course, within 2 weeks from the declaration of results, on payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the Controller of Examinations through the Co-ordinator. The Controller of Examinations will arrange for the revaluation and the results will be intimated to the candidate concerned through the Co-ordinator. Revaluation is not permitted for practical courses, and project work.
17. PROVISION FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM EXAMINATION
A candidate may, for valid medical reasons, be granted permission to withdraw from appearing for any course or courses of only one semester examination during the entire duration of the degree programme. Also only one application for withdrawal is permitted for that semester examination in which withdrawal is sought.
Withdrawal of application for examination shall be valid only if the candidate is otherwise eligible to write the examination and if it is made within the prescribed number of days prior to the commencement of the examination in that course or courses and also recommended by the Coordinator.
Withdrawal shall not be construed as an appearance for the eligibility of a candidate for First Class with Distinction.
18. TEMPORARY BREAK OF STUDY FROM A PROGRAMME
18.1 A candidate is not normally permitted to temporarily break the study. However if a candidate intends to temporarily discontinue the programme in the middle for valid reasons and to rejoin the programme in a later semester, he / she shall apply to the Coordinator of this programme in advance, in any case, not later than the last date for enrolling for the semester examinations of the semester, through the Coordinator, stating the reasons therefore.
18.2 The candidate permitted to rejoin the programme after the break shall be governed by the rules and regulations in force at the time of rejoining.
18.3 The authorized break of study will not be counted for the duration specified for passing all the courses for the purpose of classification vide Clause 16.1 and 16.2.
18.4 The total period for completion of the programme reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted shall not exceed the maximum period specified in Clause 3 irrespective of the period of break of study in order that he / she may be eligible for the award of the degree (vide Clause 15).
18.5 If any student is detained for want of requisite attendance, progress and good conduct, the period spent in that semester shall not be considered as permitted 'Break of Study' and Clause 18.3 is not applicable for this case.
19. DISCIPLINE
Every candidate is required to observe disciplined and decorous behavior both inside and outside the University and not to indulge in any activity which will tend to bring down the prestige of the University. In the event of an act of indiscipline being reported, the Coordinator of this programme shall constitute a disciplinary committee consisting of senior faculty to inquire into the acts of indiscipline and recommend suitable disciplinary action for approval and implementation.
20. REVISION OF REGULATION AND CURRICULUM
The University may from time to time revise, amend or change the Regulations, scheme of examinations and syllabi, if found necessary.

TRIMESTER SYSTEM
The following Regulations will be applicable to all engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University Tiruchirappalli, Tiruchirappalli - 620 024.
1. PRELIMINARY DEFINITIONS AND NOMENCLATURE
In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires:
1. "Programme" means Post Graduate Degree Programme that is Master of Business Administration - M.B.A.
ii. "Specialization" means discipline of M.B.A. Degree Programme, like Finance Management, Human Resource Management, etc.,
iii. "Course" means a Theory or Practical subject that is normally studied in a trimester.
iv. "Head of the Institution" means the Principal / Dean of a College / Institution who is responsible for all academic activities of that College / Institution and for implementation of relevant rules of this Regulation.
v. "University" means ANNA UNIVERSITY TIRUCHIRAPPALLI
2. PROGRAMME OFFERED
M.B.A. Degree programme is offered in the following specializations

■ Finance
■ Human Resource
■ Marketing
2.1 MODES OF STUDY
Candidates admitted under 'Full-Time' should be available in the College / Institution / University during the complete working hours for curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities assigned to them.
3. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Candidates for admission to the first trimester of the Master of Business Administration -M.B.A. Programme shall be required to have passed an appropriate Degree Examination of Anna University Tiruchirappalli as specified under qualification for admission in Table or any other examination of any recognized University or authority accepted by the Syndicate of Anna University Tiruchirappalli as equivalent thereto.
QUALIFICATION/ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
i A pass in any Degree with 10+2+3/4 year pattern.

Candidates who have already passed the above qualifying degree course and are appearing for the final semester / year examination of the said qualifying degree course from a University / Professional Body approved / recognized by U.G.C. / A.I.C.T.E. may apply for M.B.A. degree programme.
3.2 However, the Syndicate of the Anna University Tiruchirappalli may decide to restrict admission in any particular year to candidates having a subset of qualifications prescribed in the table

4. DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMME
4.1 The Full-Time M.B.A degree Programme is offered at Engineering Colleges affiliated to Anna University Tiruchirappalli for two years in trimester pattern with dual specialization.
4.2. The minimum and maximum period for completion of the M.B.A. Programme is given below:

4.3. The programme will consist of:

The Programme will also include summer project / seminars / practicals / industrial training, if they are specified in the curriculum.
4.4. The curriculum and syllabi of the programme shall be approved by the Academic Council, Anna University Tiruchirappalli, Tiruchirappalli.
4.5. Each trimester shall normally consist of 75 working days with a minimum of 250 hours for full-time mode of study. The Head of the Institution shall ensure that every teacher imparts instruction as per the number of periods specified in the syllabus and that the teacher covers the full content of the specified syllabus for the course being taught. End-trimester examination will ordinarily follow immediately after the last working day of the trimester.
4.6. The Curriculum of Programme shall be so designed that the minimum prescribed credits required for the award of the degree shall be within 90 to 100 credits.
4.7. The electives from the curriculum are to be chosen with the approval of the Head of the Department .
5. MAXIMUM MARKS
The maximum marks assigned to each subject shall be as given below:
Each of the theory and practical courses (excluding project work) shall carry maximum of 100 marks of which 20 marks will be through internal assessment.
The Practical Training or Industrial Attachment, if specified in the curriculum, shall carry 100 marks and shall be evaluated through internal assessment.
5.1 PROJECT WORK
5.1.1 Project work shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified teacher in the M.B.A. Department.
5.1.2 A candidate may, however, in certain cases, be permitted to work on the project in an Industrial / Research Organization, on the recommendation of Head of the Department, with the approval of the Head of the Institution. In such cases, the Project work shall be jointly supervised by a faculty from the department and by an expert from the Organization and the student shall be instructed to meet the supervisor periodically and to attend the review committee meetings for evaluating the progress.
5.1.3 In the M.B.A. Programme, the Project work shall be pursued for a minimum of 14 weeks in the final trimester.
5.1.4 The project work of M.B.A. programme shall carry 400 marks of which 80 marks will be through internal assessment.
5.1.5 The Project Report prepared according to approved guidelines and duly signed by the supervisor(s) and the Head of the Department shall be submitted to the Head of the Institution.
5.1.6 The deadline for submission of final Project Report for M.B.A programme is 90 calendar days from the last working day of the fifth trimester.
5.1.7 If a candidate fails to submit the project report on or before the specified deadline, he / she is deemed to have failed in the Project Work and shall reregister / re-enroll for the same in the subsequent trimester.
5.1.8 A copy of the approved project report shall be kept in the library of the institution.
5.1.9 A student who has passed all the courses prescribed in the curriculum for the award of the degree shall not be permitted to re-enroll to improve his / her marks in a course or the aggregate marks.
5.1.10. The medium of instruction, examination, seminar and project / thesis / dissertation reports will be English. However, in the case of Project Reports, in addition to the abstract in English, an abstract (1 to 2 pages) in Tamil or candidate's vernacular language has to be included.
6. FACULTY ADVISER
To help the students in planning their courses of study and for general advice on the academic programme, the Head of the Department will attach a certain number of students to a teacher of the Department who shall function as Faculty Adviser for those students throughout their period of study. Such Faculty Adviser shall advise the students and monitor the courses taken by the students, check the attendance and progress of the students attached to him/her and counsel them periodically. If necessary, the faculty adviser may also discuss with or inform the parents about the progress of the students 7. CLASS COMMITTEE
7.1 A Class Committee consists of teachers of the concerned class, student representatives and a chairperson who is not teaching the class. It is like the 'Quality Circle' (more commonly used in industries) with the overall goal of improving the teaching-learning process. The functions of the class committee include
■ Solving problems experienced by students in the class room and in the laboratories
■ Clarifying the regulations of the programme and the details of rules there in
■ Informing the student representatives the academic schedule including the dates of assessments and the syllabus coverage for each assessment
■ Informing the student representatives the details of regulations regarding the weightage used for each assessment. In the case of practical courses (laboratory / project work / seminar etc.) the break up of marks for each experiment / exercise / module of work, should be clearly discussed in the class committee meeting and informed to the students.
■ Analyzing the performance of the students of the class after each test and finding the ways and means of solving problems, if any
■ Identifying the weak students, if any and requesting the teachers concerned to provide some additional help or guidance or coaching to such weak students.
7.2 The class committee for a class under a particular programme is normally constituted by the Head of the Department. However, if the students of different programmes are mixed in a class, the class committee is to be constituted by the Head of the Institution.
7.3 The class committee shall be constituted on the first working day of any trimester or earlier.
7.4 At least 2 student representatives (usually 1 boy and 1 girl) shall be included in the class committee.
7.5 The chairperson of the class committee may invite the Faculty adviser(s) and the Head of the department to the meeting of the class committee The Head of the Institution may participate in any class committee of the institution.
7.6 The chairperson is required to prepare the minutes of every meeting, submit the same to the Head of the Institution within two days of the meeting and arrange to circulate among the concerned students and teachers. If there are some points in the minutes requiring action by the management, the same shall be brought to the notice of the management by the head of the institution.
7.7 The first meeting of the class committee shall be held within one week from the date of commencement of the trimester in order to inform the students about the nature and weightage of assessments within the framework of the Regulations. Two or three subsequent meetings may be held at suitable intervals. During these meetings the student members, representing the entire class, shall meaningfully interact and express the opinions and suggestions of the class students to improve the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process.
8. COURSE COMMITTEE FOR COMMON COURSES
Each common theory course offered to more than one group of students shall have a "Course Committee" comprising all the teachers teaching the common course with one of them nominated as Course Coordinator. The nomination of the course Coordinator shall be made by the Head of the Department / Head of the Institution depending upon whether all the teachers teaching the common course belong to a single department or to several departments. The 'Course committee' shall meet as often as possible and ensure uniform evaluation of the tests and arrive at a common scheme of evaluation for the tests. Wherever it is feasible, the course committee may also prepare a common question paper for the test(s).
9. PROCEDURES FOR AWARDING MARKS FOR INTERNAL ASSESSMENT
9.1 Every teacher is required to maintain an 'ATTENDANCE AND ASSESSMENT RECORD' which consists of attendance marked in each lecture or practical or project work class, the test marks and the record of class work (topic covered), separately for each course. This should be submitted to the Head of the department periodically (at least three times in a trimester) for checking the syllabus coverage and the records of test marks and attendance. The Head of the department will put his signature and date after due verification. At the end the trimester, the record should be verified by the Head of the institution who will keep this document in safe custody (for five years). The university or any inspection team appointed by the University may inspect the records of attendance and assessment of both current and previous trimesters
9.2 Theory Courses:
Two tests each carrying 100 marks shall be conducted by the Department / Institution. The total marks obtained in all the tests put together out of 200, shall be reduced to 20 marks and rounded to the nearest integer (This implies equal weightage to both the tests).
9.3 Practical Courses:
Every practical exercise / experiment shall be evaluated based on conduct of experiment / exercise and records maintained. There shall be at least one mid- trimester test. The criteria for arriving at the internal assessment marks shall be decided (based on the recommendation of the class committee) by the Head of the Institution and shall be announced at the beginning of every trimester.
9.4 Project Work:
There shall be three assessments (each 100 marks), by a review committee, during the project trimester. The student shall make presentation on the progress made before the committee. The Head of the Institution shall constitute the review committee for each Specialization of study. The total internal assessment marks for Project work shall be 80 marks and rounded to the nearest integer.
10. REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLETION OF A TRIMESTER
A candidate who has fulfilled the following conditions shall be deemed to have satisfied
the requirements for completion of a trimester.
10.1 Ideally every student is expected to attend all classes and secure 100% attendance. However, in order to allow for certain unavoidable reasons such as Medical / participation in sports / personal, the student is expected to attend at least 75% of the classes.
Therefore, he / she shall secure not less than 75% of overall attendance in that trimester taking into account the total number of periods in all courses put together attended by the candidate as against the total number of periods in all courses offered during that trimester. However, a candidate who could secure attendance between 65% and 74% only in the current trimester due to medical reasons (hospitalization / accident / specific illness) or due to participation in the College / University / State / National / International level Sports events with prior permission from the Principal shall be given exemption from the prescribed attendance requirement and he / she shall be permitted to
appear for the current trimester examinations.
10.2 Candidates who do not complete the trimester (as per clause 10.1), will not be permitted to write the University examinations at the end of the trimester and not permitted to go to next
trimester. They are required to repeat the incomplete trimester in the next academic year.
11. UNIVERSITY EXAMINATIONS
The examinations shall ordinarily be conducted between October and November for the first and fourth trimester, February and March for the second and fifth trimester, June and July for the third and sixth trimester. The maximum marks for each theory and practical course shall be 100 comprising of 20 marks for internal assessment and 80 marks for the
end-trimester examinations.
12. END-TRIMESTER EXAMINATIONS
12.1 There shall be one end-trimester examination of 3 hours duration in each lecture based course.
12.2. The evaluation of the Project work will be based on the project report and a Viva-Voce Examination by a team consisting of the supervisor (as one of the internal examiner), a common internal examiner and a common external examiner for each programme. The internal examiner and the external examiner shall be appointed by the University.
12.3 If a student indulges in malpractice during tests/examinations, the student shall be liable for punitive action as prescribed by the University from time to time.
13. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPEARING FOR TRIMESTER EXAMINATION
A candidate shall normally be permitted to appear for the University examinations of the current trimester if he / she has satisfied the trimester completion requirements (vide Clause 10) and has registered for examination in all courses of that trimester. Registration is mandatory for all the courses in the current trimester as well as for arrear(s) course(s) for the University examinations failing which the candidate will not be permitted to move to the higher trimester.
14. PASSING REQUIREMENTS
14.1 A candidate who secures not less than 50% of total marks prescribed for the courses with a minimum of 50% of the marks prescribed for the end-trimester University Examination in both theory and practical courses, shall be declared to have passed in the Examination.
14.2. If a candidate fails to secure a pass in a particular course, it is mandatory that he / she shall register and reappear for the examination in that course during the next trimester when examination is conducted in that course; he / she should continue to register and reappear for the examination till he / she secures a pass.
15 WEIGHTAGES
The following will be the weightages for different courses.

16. ISSUE OF MARK SHEETS
Individual mark sheet for each trimester will be issued, containing the following information through the Head of the Institution concerned, after the publication of the results.
■ The college in which the candidate studied.
■ The marks obtained in each subject in internal assessment and University Examination.
■ Whether the candidate has passed or failed in the courses concerned.
17. ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD OF THE MASTERS DEGREE
17.1 A student shall be declared eligible for the award of the degree if he / she has successfully passed all the courses as specified by the curriculum corresponding to his / her programme with in the stipulated time and subject to the following conditions.
■ No disciplinary action is pending against him / her.
■ Successfully completed the field visit / industrial training, if any, as prescribed in the curriculum.
17.2 The award of the degree must have been approved by the Syndicate of Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
18. CLASSIFICATION OF THE DEGREE AWARDED
18.1 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree (vide clause 17) having passed the examination in all the courses in his/her first appearance within the specified minimum number of trimesters (clause 4.2) securing an aggregate of not less than 75% of total marks (Internal assessment plus trimester examination marks) shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class with Distinction. For this purpose the withdrawal from examination (vide clause 19) will not be construed as an appearance. Further, the authorized break of study (vide clause 20.3)) will not be counted for the purpose of classification.
18.2 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree (vide clause 17) having passed the examination in all the courses within the specified minimum number of trimesters (clause 4.2), reckoned from his/her commencement of study plus one year, securing an aggregate of not less than 60% of total marks (internal assessment plus trimester examination marks) shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class. For this purpose the authorized break of study (vide clause 20.3) will not be counted for the purpose of classification.
18.3 All other candidates (not covered in clauses 18.1 and 18.2) who qualify for the award of the degree (vide Clause 17) shall be declared to have passed the examination in Second Class.
18.4 A candidate who is absent in trimester examination in a course / project work after having enrolled for the same shall be considered to have appeared in that examination for the purpose of classification.
18.5 Copies of the answer scripts for the theory course(s) can be obtained from the Controller of Examinations, Anna University Tiruchirappalli on payment of fee specified for this purpose.
18.6 A candidate can apply for revaluation of his / her trimester examination answer paper in a theory course, within 2 weeks from the declaration of results, on payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the Controller of Examinations, Anna University Tiruchirappalli through the Head of Departments / Head of the Institution concerned. The Controller of Examinations will arrange for the revaluation and the results will be intimated to the candidate concerned through the Head of the Institution. Revaluation is not permitted for practical courses and for project work.
19. PROVISION FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM EXAMINATIONS
19.1. A candidate may, for valid reasons, be granted permission to withdraw from appearing for any course or courses of only one trimester examination during the entire duration of the degree programme. Also only one application for withdrawal is permitted for
that trimester examination in which withdrawal is sought.
19.2. Withdrawal application shall be valid only if the candidate is otherwise eligible to write the examination and if it is made prior to the examination in that course or courses and also recommended by the Head of Department and Head of the Institution.
19.3. Withdrawal shall not be construed as appearance for the eligibility of a candidate for the purpose of classification vide clause 18.1 and 18.2.
20. TEMPORARY BREAK OF STUDY FROM A PROGRAMME
20.1 A candidate is not normally permitted to temporarily break the study. However if a candidate intends to temporarily discontinue the programme in the middle of a trimester for valid reasons (such as accident or hospitalization due to prolonged ill health) and to rejoin the programme in a later trimester, he / she shall apply to the University in advance, in any case, not later than the last date for enrolling for the trimester examinations of the trimester in question, through the Head of the Department and Head of the Institution
stating the reasons therefore.
20.2 The candidate permitted to rejoin the programme after the break shall be governed by
the rules and regulations in force at the time of rejoining.
20.3 The authorized break of study will not be counted for the duration specified for passing all the courses for the purpose of classification vides Clause 18.1 and 18.2.
20.4 The total period for completion of the programme reckoned from, the commencement of the first trimester to which the candidate was admitted, shall not exceed the maximum period specified in clause 4.2 irrespective of the period of break of study in order that he / she may be eligible for the award of the degree (vide clause 18).
20.5 If any student is detained for want of requisite attendance, progress and good conduct, the period spent in that trimester shall not be considered as permitted 'Break of Study' and Clause 20.3 is not applicable for this case.
21. INDUSTRIAL VISIT
Every student is expected to undergo one Industrial visit in an academic year.
22. DISCIPLINE
Every student is expected to observe discipline and decorum both inside and outside the
college and not to indulge in any activity which will tend to bring down the prestige of the University / College. In the event of an act of indiscipline being reported, the Principal shall constitute a disciplinary committee consisting of Principal, two Heads of Department of which one should be from the faculty of the student, to inquire into acts of indiscipline and notify the University about the disciplinary action taken. The disciplinary action is subject to review by the University in case the student represents to the University. Any expulsion of the student from the college shall be with prior concurrence of the University.
23. REVISION OF REGULATION AND CURRICULUM
The University may from time to time revise, amend or change the Regulations, scheme
of examinations and syllabi if found necessary.

The following Regulations will be applicable to all engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University Tiruchirappalli, Tiruchirappalli - 620 024.
1. PRELIMINARY DEFINITIONS AND NOMENCLATURE
In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires:
1. "Programme" means Post Graduate Degree Programme that is Master of Business Administration - M.B.A.
ii. "Specialization" means discipline of M.B.A. Degree Programme, like Finance Management, Human Resource Management, etc.,
iii. "Course" means a Theory or Practical subject that is normally studied in a trimester.
iv. "Head of the Institution" means the Principal / Dean of a College / Institution who is responsible for all academic activities of that College / Institution and for implementation of relevant rules of this Regulation.
v. "University" means ANNA UNIVERSITY TIRUCHIRAPPALLI
2. PROGRAMME OFFERED
M.B.A. Degree programme is offered in the following specializations
■ System
■ Finance
■ Human Resource
■ Marketing
2.1 MODES OF STUDY
Candidates admitted under 'Full-Time' should be available in the College / Institution / University during the complete working hours for curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities assigned to them.
3. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Candidates for admission to the first trimester of the Master of Business Administration -M.B.A. Programme shall be required to have passed an appropriate Degree Examination of Anna University Tiruchirappalli as specified under qualification for admission in Table or any other examination of any recognized University or authority accepted by the Syndicate of Anna University Tiruchirappalli as equivalent thereto.
QUALIFICATION/ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
i A pass in any Degree with 10+2+3/4 year pattern.

ii A pass in any Degree with 10+3 (Diploma)+3 year pattern.
Candidates who have already passed the above qualifying degree course and are appearing for the final semester / year examination of the said qualifying degree course from a University / Professional Body approved / recognized by U.G.C. / A.I.C.T.E. may apply for M.B.A. degree programme.
3.2 However, the Syndicate of the Anna University Tiruchirappalli may decide to restrict admission in any particular year to candidates having a subset of qualifications prescribed in the table
3.3 Not withstanding the qualifying examination the candidate might have passed, he / she shall have a minimum level of proficiency in the appropriate programme / courses as prescribed by the Syndicate of the Anna University Tiruchirappalli from time to time
3.4 Eligibility conditions for admission such as class obtained, number of attempts in qualifying examination and physical fitness will be as prescribed by the Syndicate of the Anna University Tiruchirappalli from time to time.
4. DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMME
4.1 The Full-Time M.B.A degree Programme is offered at Engineering Colleges affiliated to Anna University Tiruchirappalli for two years in trimester pattern with dual specialization.
4.2. The minimum and maximum period for completion of the M.B.A. Programme is given below:

4.3. The programme will consist of:
■ core courses
■ elective courses

The Programme will also include summer project / seminars / practicals / industrial training, if they are specified in the curriculum.
4.4. The curriculum and syllabi of the programme shall be approved by the Academic Council, Anna University Tiruchirappalli, Tiruchirappalli.
4.5. Each trimester shall normally consist of 75 working days with a minimum of 250 hours for full-time mode of study. The Head of the Institution shall ensure that every teacher imparts instruction as per the number of periods specified in the syllabus and that the teacher covers the full content of the specified syllabus for the course being taught. End-trimester examination will ordinarily follow immediately after the last working day of the trimester.
4.6. The Curriculum of Programme shall be so designed that the minimum prescribed credits required for the award of the degree shall be within 90 to 100 credits.
4.7. The electives from the curriculum are to be chosen with the approval of the Head of the Department .
5. MAXIMUM MARKS
The maximum marks assigned to each subject shall be as given below:
Each of the theory and practical courses (excluding project work) shall carry maximum of 100 marks of which 20 marks will be through internal assessment.
The Practical Training or Industrial Attachment, if specified in the curriculum, shall carry 100 marks and shall be evaluated through internal assessment.
5.1 PROJECT WORK
5.1.1 Project work shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified teacher in the M.B.A. Department.
5.1.2 A candidate may, however, in certain cases, be permitted to work on the project in an Industrial / Research Organization, on the recommendation of Head of the Department, with the approval of the Head of the Institution. In such cases, the Project work shall be jointly supervised by a faculty from the department and by an expert from the Organization and the student shall be instructed to meet the supervisor periodically and to attend the review committee meetings for evaluating the progress.
5.1.3 In the M.B.A. Programme, the Project work shall be pursued for a minimum of 14 weeks in the final trimester.
5.1.4 The project work of M.B.A. programme shall carry 400 marks of which 80 marks will be through internal assessment.
5.1.5 The Project Report prepared according to approved guidelines and duly signed by the supervisor(s) and the Head of the Department shall be submitted to the Head of the Institution.
5.1.6 The deadline for submission of final Project Report for M.B.A programme is 90 calendar days from the last working day of the fifth trimester.
5.1.7 If a candidate fails to submit the project report on or before the specified deadline, he / she is deemed to have failed in the Project Work and shall reregister / re-enroll for the same in the subsequent trimester.
5.1.8 A copy of the approved project report shall be kept in the library of the institution.
5.1.9 A student who has passed all the courses prescribed in the curriculum for the award of the degree shall not be permitted to re-enroll to improve his / her marks in a course or the aggregate marks.
5.1.10. The medium of instruction, examination, seminar and project / thesis / dissertation reports will be English. However, in the case of Project Reports, in addition to the abstract in English, an abstract (1 to 2 pages) in Tamil or candidate's vernacular language has to be included.

12.1 There shall be one end-trimester examination of 3 hours duration in each lecture based course.
12.2. The evaluation of the Project work will be based on the project report and a Viva-Voce Examination by a team consisting of the supervisor (as one of the internal examiner), a common internal examiner and a common external examiner for each programme. The internal examiner and the external examiner shall be appointed by the University.
12.3 If a student indulges in malpractice during tests/examinations, the student shall be liable for punitive action as prescribed by the University from time to time.
13. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPEARING FOR TRIMESTER EXAMINATION
A candidate shall normally be permitted to appear for the University examinations of the current trimester if he / she has satisfied the trimester completion requirements (vide Clause 10) and has registered for examination in all courses of that trimester. Registration is mandatory for all the courses in the current trimester as well as for arrear(s) course(s) for the University examinations failing which the candidate will not be permitted to move to the higher trimester.
14. PASSING REQUIREMENTS
14.1 A candidate who secures not less than 50% of total marks prescribed for the courses with a minimum of 50% of the marks prescribed for the end-trimester University Examination in both theory and practical courses, shall be declared to have passed in the Examination.
14.2. If a candidate fails to secure a pass in a particular course, it is mandatory that he / she shall register and reappear for the examination in that course during the next trimester when examination is conducted in that course; he / she should continue to register and reappear for the examination till he / she secures a pass.
15 WEIGHTAGES
The following will be the weightages for different courses.

16. ISSUE OF MARK SHEETS
Individual mark sheet for each trimester will be issued, containing the following information through the Head of the Institution concerned, after the publication of the results.
■ The college in which the candidate studied.
■ The marks obtained in each subject in internal assessment and University Examination.
■ Whether the candidate has passed or failed in the courses concerned.
17. ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD OF THE MASTERS DEGREE
17.1 A student shall be declared eligible for the award of the degree if he / she has successfully passed all the courses as specified by the curriculum corresponding to his / her programme with in the stipulated time and subject to the following conditions.
■ No disciplinary action is pending against him / her.
■ Successfully completed the field visit / industrial training, if any, as prescribed in the curriculum.
17.2 The award of the degree must have been approved by the Syndicate of Anna University Tiruchirappalli.
18. CLASSIFICATION OF THE DEGREE AWARDED
18.1 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree (vide clause 17) having passed the examination in all the courses in his/her first appearance within the specified minimum number of trimesters (clause 4.2) securing an aggregate of not less than 75% of total marks (Internal assessment plus trimester examination marks) shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class with Distinction. For this purpose the withdrawal from examination (vide clause 19) will not be construed as an appearance. Further, the authorized break of study (vide clause 20.3)) will not be counted for the purpose of classification.
18.2 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the Degree (vide clause 17) having passed the examination in all the courses within the specified minimum number of trimesters (clause 4.2), reckoned from his/her commencement of study plus one year, securing an aggregate of not less than 60% of total marks (internal assessment plus trimester examination marks) shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class. For this purpose the authorized break of study (vide clause 20.3) will not be counted for the purpose of classification.
18.3 All other candidates (not covered in clauses 18.1 and 18.2) who qualify for the award of the degree (vide Clause 17) shall be declared to have passed the examination in Second Class.
18.4 A candidate who is absent in trimester examination in a course / project work after having enrolled for the same shall be considered to have appeared in that examination for the purpose of classification.
18.5 Copies of the answer scripts for the theory course(s) can be obtained from the Controller of Examinations, Anna University Tiruchirappalli on payment of fee specified for this purpose.
18.6 A candidate can apply for revaluation of his / her trimester examination answer paper in a theory course, within 2 weeks from the declaration of results, on payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the Controller of Examinations, Anna University Tiruchirappalli through the Head of Departments / Head of the Institution concerned. The Controller of Examinations will arrange for the revaluation and the results will be intimated to the candidate concerned through the Head of the Institution. Revaluation is not permitted for practical courses and for project work.
19. PROVISION FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM EXAMINATIONS
19.1. A candidate may, for valid reasons, be granted permission to withdraw from appearing for any course or courses of only one trimester examination during the entire duration of the degree programme. Also only one application for withdrawal is permitted for
that trimester examination in which withdrawal is sought.
19.2. Withdrawal application shall be valid only if the candidate is otherwise eligible to write the examination and if it is made prior to the examination in that course or courses and also recommended by the Head of Department and Head of the Institution.
19.3. Withdrawal shall not be construed as appearance for the eligibility of a candidate for the purpose of classification vide clause 18.1 and 18.2.
20. TEMPORARY BREAK OF STUDY FROM A PROGRAMME
20.1 A candidate is not normally permitted to temporarily break the study. However if a candidate intends to temporarily discontinue the programme in the middle of a trimester for valid reasons (such as accident or hospitalization due to prolonged ill health) and to rejoin the programme in a later trimester, he / she shall apply to the University in advance, in any case, not later than the last date for enrolling for the trimester examinations of the trimester in question, through the Head of the Department and Head of the Institution
stating the reasons therefore.
20.2 The candidate permitted to rejoin the programme after the break shall be governed by
the rules and regulations in force at the time of rejoining.
20.3 The authorized break of study will not be counted for the duration specified for passing all the courses for the purpose of classification vides Clause 18.1 and 18.2.
20.4 The total period for completion of the programme reckoned from, the commencement of the first trimester to which the candidate was admitted, shall not exceed the maximum period specified in clause 4.2 irrespective of the period of break of study in order that he / she may be eligible for the award of the degree (vide clause 18).
20.5 If any student is detained for want of requisite attendance, progress and good conduct, the period spent in that trimester shall not be considered as permitted 'Break of Study' and Clause 20.3 is not applicable for this case.
21. INDUSTRIAL VISIT
Every student is expected to undergo one Industrial visit in an academic year.
22. DISCIPLINE
Every student is expected to observe discipline and decorum both inside and outside the
college and not to indulge in any activity which will tend to bring down the prestige of the University / College. In the event of an act of indiscipline being reported, the Principal shall constitute a disciplinary committee consisting of Principal, two Heads of Department of which one should be from the faculty of the student, to inquire into acts of indiscipline and notify the University about the disciplinary action taken. The disciplinary action is subject to review by the University in case the student represents to the University. Any expulsion of the student from the college shall be with prior concurrence of the University.
23. REVISION OF REGULATION AND CURRICULUM
The University may from time to time revise, amend or change the Regulations, scheme
of examinations and syllabi if found necessary.

1. PRELIMINARY DEFINITIONS AND NOMENCLATURE
In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires:
i. "Programme" means Degree Programme that is B.E. / B.Tech. (Part-Time 7 Semesters) Degree Programme.
ii. "Branch" means specialization or discipline of B.E. / B.Tech. (Part-Time -7 Semesters) Degree Programme, like Civil Engineering, Information Technology, etc.
iii. "Course" means a theory or practical course that is normally studied in a semester, like Mathematics - I, Physics, Engineering Mechanics, etc.
iv. "Director, Academic Courses" means the authority of the University who is responsible for all academic activities of the University Departments for implementation of relevant rules of this Regulation.
v. "Head of the Institution" means the Dean of the campus.
vi. "Chairman" means Head of the Faculty.
vii. "Head of the Department" means Head of the every Department of the University.
viii. "University" means ANNA UNIVERSITY, TIRUCHIRAPPALLI.
2. CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION
2.1 Candidates seeking admission to the first semester (also known as Bridge semester) of the B.E. / B.Tech. (Part - Time7 Semesters) degree programme shall be required to have passed the Diploma in Engineering / Technology in the relevant branch of specialization awarded by the State Board of Technical Education, Tamil
Nadu or any other authority accepted by the Syndicate of the University as equivalent thereto.
2.2 Eligibility
Candidates seeking admission shall satisfy the following conditions
i. Eligibility conditions such as class, marks, number of attempts shall be as prescribed by the Syndicate of the University from time to time.
ii. Shall have been employed for at least one year after qualifying for the Diploma, the period being counted as on 1st January of the academic year in which admission is sought.
iii. Notwithstanding the qualifying examination the candidate might have passed [vide clause 2.1] he/she have a minimum level of proficiency in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and the relevant branch of study as may be prescribed by the University.
iv. Shall be employed within a zone of 65 km. radius from the Institution.
v. Shall satisfy the conditions of physical fitness as prescribed by the syndicate of the University.
3. DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME
3.1 The duration of the programme shall be seven consecutive semesters, spread over 3.5 academic years, (one academic year consisting of 2 semesters). Each semester shall have a minimum of 75 working days, (evenings) excluding the days of the end-semester examinations. The Head of the Department shall ensure that every teacher imparts instruction as per the number of periods specified in the syllabus and that the teacher teaches the full content of the specified syllabus for the course being taught.
3.2 A student is ordinarily expected to complete the B.E. / B.Tech. (Part -Time 7 semesters) degree programmes in seven semesters (three and half academic years) but in any case he / she has to complete the course requirements successfully and has passed the examinations in all the courses prescribed in the respective curriculum within a maximum period of 14 Semesters ( 7 academic years ) reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted. This maximum period shall be 16 semesters in the case of women candidates.
4. BRANCHES OF STUDY
A candidate may be offered, at the time of admission, one of the following branches of study.

5. COURSES OF STUDY
The Courses of study shall include theory and practical courses as detailed in the respective curriculum. The medium of Instruction, Examination and Project Report shall be in English.
6. EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES PERFORMANCE
6.1 The maximum marks for each theory and practical course (subject) shall be 100 comprising of 20 marks for continuous assessment and 80 marks for the end-semester examinations conducted by the University. The examinations shall ordinarily be conducted in November / December or in April / May depending on odd or even semesters. For practical examinations (including Project Work), both internal and external examiners shall be appointed by the Additional Controller of Examinations, University Departments.
6.2 Procedure For Awarding Marks For Continuous Assessment 6.2.1. Theory Courses
The maximum marks for Internal Assessment shall be 20 in case of theory courses. Three test each carrying 100 marks shall be conducted by the Department. The Total marks obtained in the best 2 tests out of 3 tests put together, out of 200 shall be reduced to 15 marks (vide clause 6.1) and rounded to nearest integer. (The remaining 5 marks shall be distributed for attendance as prescribed in clause 6.2.5)
6.2.2 Practical Courses
Every practical exercise / experiment shall be evaluated based on conduct of experiment / exercise and records maintained. There shall be at least one mid-semester test. The criteria for arriving at the internal assessment marks maximum 15 shall be decided by the Head of the Department and shall be announced at the beginning of every semester. (The remaining 5 marks shall be distributed for attendance as prescribed in clause 6.2.5)
6.2.3. Theory Courses With Laboratory Component
The maximum marks for Internal Assessment shall be 20 in case of theory courses with Laboratory component.
If there is a theory course with Laboratory component, there shall be three tests: The first two tests (each 100 marks) will be from theory portions and the third test (maximum mark 100) will be for laboratory component. The sum of marks of first two tests shall be reduced to 15 marks and the third test mark shall be reduced to 15 marks. The sum of these for 15 marks may then be arrived at and rounded to nearest integer. (The remaining 5 marks shall be distributed for attendance as prescribed in clause 6.2.5)
6.2.4 Project Work
There shall be three assessments (each 100 marks) during the semester by a review committee. The Head of the Department shall constitute the review committee. The student shall make presentation on the progress made before the committee. The total marks obtained in the three assessments shall be reduced to 15 marks and rounded to the nearest integer. (The remaining 5 marks shall be distributed for attendance as prescribed in clause 6.2.5)
6.2.5. Distribution of 5 marks for attendance above 75%
76% - 80% = 1 mark
81% - 85% = 2 marks
86% - 90% = 3 marks
91% - 95% = 4 marks
96% - 100% = 5 marks
7. DISCIPLINE
7.1 Every student is required to be disciplined and to have decorous behavior both inside and outside the campus and not to indulge in any activity, which will tend to bring down the prestige of the Institution and University.
7.2 Any act of indiscipline of a student reported to the Head of the Institution will be referred to a Discipline and Welfare Committee nominated by the University from time to time, for taking appropriate action.
7.3 Ifa student indulges in malpractice in any of the Tests of Internal / University Examinations, the student shall be liable for punitive action as prescribed by the University from time to time.
8. REQUIREMENT FOR COMPLETION OF A SEMESTER
8.2. A candidate who fulfills the following conditions shall be deemed to have satisfied the requirements for the completion of a semester.
He / She secures not less than 70% overall attendance taking into account the total number of periods attended by the candidate in all the courses put together as against the total number of periods in all the courses offered during the semester.
8.2 A candidate who could secure of overall attendance of 60% and above but less than 70% only in the current semester due to valid reasons (hospitalization / accident / specific illness ) approved by the University shall be permitted to appear for the current semester examinations and he / she shall be permitted to move to the next semester.
8.3 Candidates who do not complete the semester (As per clause 8.1 & 8.2) will not be permitted to write the end-semester examination and are not permitted to go to next semester. They are required to repeat the incomplete semester in the next academic year.
9. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPEARING FOR END- SEMESTER
EXAMINATION AND PROCEEDING THE NEXT SEMESTER
i) A candidate shall normally be permitted to appear for the end-semester examination of the current semester, if he / she has satisfied the semester completion requirements (vide clause 8.1 & 8.2) and has registered for examination in all the courses of that semester.
However, students having arrears of the previous semester courses must register for all the arrear courses of the pervious semesters along with the current semester subjects.
ii) A candidate shall be permitted to proceed from the current semester to the next semester, irrespective of the arrear courses he / she may have in the earlier semester only if,
a) He / She has satisfied all the semester completion requirements of the current semester and
b) He / She has registered for the end semester examination in all the courses of the current semester and also in all arrears course, if any.
10. PASSING REQUIREMENT AND CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES
10.1 A candidate who secures not less than 50% of total marks prescribed for the courses (Internal Assesment + End semester examination) with a minimum of 50% of the marks prescribed for the end-semester
Examination in both theory and practical courses (including Project work), shall be declared to have passed in the Examination.
10.1.1The Internal Assessment marks for all the courses excluding practicals / project work are valid for a maximum of 2 attempts in the end semester examinations, including the first appearance. From the 3rd attempt onwards the internal assessment will not be taken into account and the passing requirement shall be 50% of the total marks alone prescribed for those courses in the end semester examination.
10.2 A candidate who has been declared as "failed" in a particular course may reappear for the end-semester examination in that course as and when the examination in that course is conducted.
A student can apply for revaluation of his / her end-semester examination answer paper in a course, within 2 weeks from the declaration of results, on payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the Controller of Examinations through the Head of Departments concerned. The Controller of Examinations will arrange for the revaluation and the
results will be intimated to the candidate concerned through the Head of the Departments. A candidate who qualifies for the award of the degree (vide clause 13) passing the examination in all the courses in all the seven semesters in his / her first appearance within seven consecutive semesters (3.5 academic years) and in addition secures an aggregate of not less than 75% of the total marks (continuous assessment plus end-semester examination marks) for all the courses in the semester II to VII put together shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class with Distinction. For this purpose, the withdrawal from examination (vide clause 11) shall not be construed as an appearance. Further any authorized break of study will be excluded from the total duration while reckoning maximum the period of completion (vide clause 12.3)
10.5 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the degree (vide clause 13) passing the examination in all the courses in the Semester II to VII within a period of eight consecutive semesters after his / her commencement of study in the second semester and in addition secures an aggregate of not less than 60% of the total marks (continuous assessment plus end-semester examination marks) for all the courses in the semesters II to VII put together shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class. For this purpose the period of completion will be arrived at by excluding any authorized break of study (vide clause 12.3).
10.6 All other candidates who qualify for the award of the degree (vide clause 13) shall be declared to have passed the examination in Second Class.
10.7 A candidate, who absents in any of University examination in a course / project work after having registered for the same, shall be considered to have appeared in that examination for the purpose of classification.
11 PROVISION FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM END-SEMESTER EXAMINATION
11.1 A candidate, may for valid reasons and on prior application, be granted permission to withdraw from appearing for the examination of any one course or consecutive examinations of more than one course in a semester examination.
11.2 Such withdrawal shall be permitted only once during the entire period of study of the degree programme
11.3 Withdrawal application is valid only if it is made within 10 days prior to the commencement of the examination in that course or courses and recommended by the Head of the Department and approved by the Director, Academic Courses.
11.3.1 Notwithstanding the requirement of mandatory TEN days notice,
applications for withdrawal for special cases under extraordinary conditions will be considered
11.4 Withdrawal shall not be construed as an appearance for the eligibility of a candidate for First Class with Distinction.
11.5 Withdrawal from the end - semester examination is NOT applicable to arrear subjects of previous semesters
11.6 The candidate shall reappear in the examination only when the examination in the withdrawn course or courses is conducted subsequently.
12 PROVISION FOR TEMPORARY BREAK OF STUDY
12.1 Temporary Break of study shall not normally be permitted. However, temporary Break of Study shall be granted only once and also for a maximum of one year during the entire period of study of the degree programme. If a candidate intends to temporarily discontinue the programme in the middle for valid reasons, and to rejoin the programme in a later semester, permission may be granted based on the merits of the case, provided he / she applies to the Director, Academic Courses in advance, but not later than the last date for registering for the end semester examination of the semester in question, through the Head of the Department stating the reasons therefore and the probable date of rejoining the programme.
12.2 The candidate rejoining the programme after the authorized break of study shall be covered by the rules and regulations in force at the time of rejoining.
12.3 The duration specified for passing all the courses for the purpose of classification (vide clause 10.4 and 10.5) shall be creased by the period of such authorized break of study.
12.4 The total period for completion of the programme reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted shall not in any case exceed the prescribed maximum period (vide clause 3.2 ) irrespective of the period of break of study.
12.5 If any student is either detained in a semester for want of requisite attendance, progress and good conduct or suspended from the programme indiscipline, the resulting break of period of study shall not be considered as an authorized break of study for purpose of classification and clause 12.3 is not applicable in this case.
13 ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE
A candidate shall be declared to be eligible for the award of the Degree if he/she has.
i) Undergone the programme for a period of seven semesters but in any case not more than fourteen semesters (vide clause 3.2).
ii) Passed the examinations in all the courses prescribed in the respective curriculum within a maximum period of14 Semesters reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted. This maximum period shall be 16 semesters in the case of women candidates.
iii) No disciplinary action pending against him / her.
iv) The award of the degree must be approved by the Syndicate.
14 REVISION OF REGULATIONS AND CURRICULUM
The University may from time to time revise, amend or change the regulations, courses of study, curricuium, syllabi and assessment procedure, if found necessary.

(Part -Time 7 semesters) degree programmes in seven semesters (three and half academic years) but in any case he / she has to complete the course requirements successfully and has passed the examinations in all the courses prescribed in the respective curriculum within a maximum period of 14 Semesters ( 7 academic years ) reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted. This maximum period shall be 16 semesters in the case of women candidates.

5. COURSES OF STUDY
The Courses of study shall include theory and practical courses as detailed in the respective curriculum. The medium of Instruction, Examination and Project Report shall be in English.
6. EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES PERFORMANCE
6.1 The maximum marks for each theory and practical course (subject) shall be 100 comprising of 20 marks for continuous assessment and 80 marks for the end-semester examinations conducted by the University. The examinations shall ordinarily be conducted in November / December or in April / May depending on odd or even semesters. For practical examinations (including Project Work), both internal and external examiners shall be appointed by the Additional Controller of Examinations, University Departments.
6.2 Procedure For Awarding Marks For Continuous Assessment 6.2.1. Theory Courses
The maximum marks for Internal Assessment shall be 20 in case of theory courses. Three test each carrying 100 marks shall be conducted by the Department. The Total marks obtained in the best 2 tests out of 3 tests put together, out of 200 shall be reduced to 15 marks (vide clause 6.1) and rounded to nearest integer. (The remaining 5 marks shall be distributed for attendance as prescribed in clause 6.2.5)
6.2.2 Practical Courses
Every practical exercise / experiment shall be evaluated based on conduct of experiment / exercise and records maintained. There shall be at least one mid-semester test. The criteria for arriving at the internal assessment marks maximum 15 shall be decided by the Head of the Department and shall be announced at the beginning of every semester. (The remaining 5 marks shall be distributed for attendance as prescribed in clause 6.2.5)
6.2.3. Theory Courses With Laboratory Component
The maximum marks for Internal Assessment shall be 20 in case of theory courses with Laboratory component.
If there is a theory course with Laboratory component, there shall be three tests: The first two tests (each 100 marks) will be from theory portions and the third test (maximum mark 100) will be for laboratory component. The sum of marks of first two tests shall be reduced to 15 marks and the third test mark shall be reduced to 15 marks. The sum of these for 15 marks may then be arrived at and rounded to nearest integer. (The remaining 5 marks shall be distributed for attendance as prescribed in clause 6.2.5)
6.2.4 Project Work
There shall be three assessments (each 100 marks) during the semester by a review committee. The Head of the Department shall constitute the review committee. The student shall make presentation on the progress made before the committee. The total marks obtained in the three assessments shall be reduced to 15 marks and rounded to the nearest integer. (The remaining 5 marks shall be distributed for attendance as prescribed in clause 6.2.5)
6.2.5. Distribution of 5 marks for attendance above 75%
76% - 80% = 1 mark
81% - 85% = 2 marks
86% - 90% = 3 marks
91% - 95% = 4 marks
96% - 100% = 5 marks
7. DISCIPLINE
7.1 Every student is required to be disciplined and to have decorous behavior both inside and outside the campus and not to indulge in any activity, which will tend to bring down the prestige of the Institution and University.
7.2 Any act of indiscipline of a student reported to the Head of the Institution will be referred to a Discipline and Welfare Committee nominated by the University from time to time, for taking appropriate action.
7.3 Ifa student indulges in malpractice in any of the Tests of Internal / University Examinations, the student shall be liable for punitive action as prescribed by the University from time to time.
8. REQUIREMENT FOR COMPLETION OF A SEMESTER
8.2. A candidate who fulfills the following conditions shall be deemed to have satisfied the requirements for the completion of a semester.
He / She secures not less than 70% overall attendance taking into account the total number of periods attended by the candidate in all the courses put together as against the total number of periods in all the courses offered during the semester.
8.2 A candidate who could secure of overall attendance of 60% and above but less than 70% only in the current semester due to valid reasons (hospitalization / accident / specific illness ) approved by the University shall be permitted to appear for the current semester examinations and he / she shall be permitted to move to the next semester.
8.3 Candidates who do not complete the semester (As per clause 8.1 & 8.2) will not be permitted to write the end-semester examination and are not permitted to go to next semester. They are required to repeat the incomplete semester in the next academic year.
9. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPEARING FOR END- SEMESTER
EXAMINATION AND PROCEEDING THE NEXT SEMESTER
i) A candidate shall normally be permitted to appear for the end-semester examination of the current semester, if he / she has satisfied the semester completion requirements (vide clause 8.1 & 8.2) and has registered for examination in all the courses of that semester.
However, students having arrears of the previous semester courses must register for all the arrear courses of the pervious semesters along with the current semester subjects.
ii) A candidate shall be permitted to proceed from the current semester to the next semester, irrespective of the arrear courses he / she may have in the earlier semester only if,
a) He / She has satisfied all the semester completion requirements of the current semester and
b) He / She has registered for the end semester examination in all the courses of the current semester and also in all arrears course, if any.
10. PASSING REQUIREMENT AND CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES
10.1 A candidate who secures not less than 50% of total marks prescribed for the courses (Internal Assesment + End semester examination) with a minimum of 50% of the marks prescribed for the end-semester
Examination in both theory and practical courses (including Project work), shall be declared to have passed in the Examination.
10.1.1The Internal Assessment marks for all the courses excluding practicals / project work are valid for a maximum of 2 attempts in the end semester examinations, including the first appearance. From the 3rd attempt onwards the internal assessment will not be taken into account and the passing requirement shall be 50% of the total marks alone prescribed for those courses in the end semester examination.
10.2 A candidate who has been declared as "failed" in a particular course may reappear for the end-semester examination in that course as and when the examination in that course is conducted.
A student can apply for revaluation of his / her end-semester examination answer paper in a course, within 2 weeks from the declaration of results, on payment of a prescribed fee through proper application to the Controller of Examinations through the Head of Departments concerned. The Controller of Examinations will arrange for the revaluation and the
results will be intimated to the candidate concerned through the Head of the Departments. A candidate who qualifies for the award of the degree (vide clause 13) passing the examination in all the courses in all the seven semesters in his / her first appearance within seven consecutive semesters (3.5 academic years) and in addition secures an aggregate of not less than 75% of the total marks (continuous assessment plus end-semester examination marks) for all the courses in the semester II to VII put together shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class with Distinction. For this purpose, the withdrawal from examination (vide clause 11) shall not be construed as an appearance. Further any authorized break of study will be excluded from the total duration while reckoning maximum the period of completion (vide clause 12.3)
10.5 A candidate who qualifies for the award of the degree (vide clause 13) passing the examination in all the courses in the Semester II to VII within a period of eight consecutive semesters after his / her commencement of study in the second semester and in addition secures an aggregate of not less than 60% of the total marks (continuous assessment plus end-semester examination marks) for all the courses in the semesters II to VII put together shall be declared to have passed the examination in First Class. For this purpose the period of completion will be arrived at by excluding any authorized break of study (vide clause 12.3).
10.6 All other candidates who qualify for the award of the degree (vide clause 13) shall be declared to have passed the examination in Second Class.
10.7 A candidate, who absents in any of University examination in a course / project work after having registered for the same, shall be considered to have appeared in that examination for the purpose of classification.
11 PROVISION FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM END-SEMESTER EXAMINATION
11.1 A candidate, may for valid reasons and on prior application, be granted permission to withdraw from appearing for the examination of any one course or consecutive examinations of more than one course in a semester examination.
11.2 Such withdrawal shall be permitted only once during the entire period of study of the degree programme
11.3 Withdrawal application is valid only if it is made within 10 days prior to the commencement of the examination in that course or courses and recommended by the Head of the Department and approved by the Director, Academic Courses.
11.3.1 Notwithstanding the requirement of mandatory TEN days notice,
applications for withdrawal for special cases under extraordinary conditions will be considered
11.4 Withdrawal shall not be construed as an appearance for the eligibility of a candidate for First Class with Distinction.
11.5 Withdrawal from the end - semester examination is NOT applicable to arrear subjects of previous semesters
11.6 The candidate shall reappear in the examination only when the examination in the withdrawn course or courses is conducted subsequently.
12 PROVISION FOR TEMPORARY BREAK OF STUDY
12.1 Temporary Break of study shall not normally be permitted. However, temporary Break of Study shall be granted only once and also for a maximum of one year during the entire period of study of the degree programme. If a candidate intends to temporarily discontinue the programme in the middle for valid reasons, and to rejoin the programme in a later semester, permission may be granted based on the merits of the case, provided he / she applies to the Director, Academic Courses in advance, but not later than the last date for registering for the end semester examination of the semester in question, through the Head of the Department stating the reasons therefore and the probable date of rejoining the programme.
12.2 The candidate rejoining the programme after the authorized break of study shall be covered by the rules and regulations in force at the time of rejoining.
12.3 The duration specified for passing all the courses for the purpose of classification (vide clause 10.4 and 10.5) shall be creased by the period of such authorized break of study.
12.4 The total period for completion of the programme reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted shall not in any case exceed the prescribed maximum period (vide clause 3.2 ) irrespective of the period of break of study.
12.5 If any student is either detained in a semester for want of requisite attendance, progress and good conduct or suspended from the programme indiscipline, the resulting break of period of study shall not be considered as an authorized break of study for purpose of classification and clause 12.3 is not applicable in this case.
13 ELIGIBILITY FOR THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE
A candidate shall be declared to be eligible for the award of the Degree if he/she has.
i) Undergone the programme for a period of seven semesters but in any case not more than fourteen semesters (vide clause 3.2).
ii) Passed the examinations in all the courses prescribed in the respective curriculum within a maximum period of14 Semesters reckoned from the commencement of the first semester to which the candidate was admitted. This maximum period shall be 16 semesters in the case of women candidates.
iii) No disciplinary action pending against him / her.
iv) The award of the degree must be approved by the Syndicate.
14 REVISION OF REGULATIONS AND CURRICULUM
The University may from time to time revise, amend or change the regulations, courses of study, curricuium, syllabi and assessment procedure, if found necessary.
